Kefalonia

Home Destinations

Kefalonia.

Kefalonia (Kefallinia) is the Ionian Islands’ largest and most mountainous island, as well as the third most populous after Corfu and Zakynthos. It is located opposite the entrance to the Gulf of Patras, north of Zakynthos, south of Lefkada, and west of Ithaca.

Kefalonia’s beaches.

Myrtos in the north, is the most famous beach of the island with its deep blue waters and white pebbles.

Towards Fiskardo, take note of the Emplisi with its white rocks, the tiny pebble cove in Alaties, near Magganos, the pebble in Foki, and the lovely Dafnoudi with its blue calm waters and thick pebbles . The wide Antisamos with turquoise waves and beach bar, sunbeds, umbrellas, pedal boats, and kayaks is located in the Sami area. Swimming against the backdrop of the verdant slopes is worth the boat ride from Antisamos to the desolate sandy beach of Koutsoupia.

On the way from Sami to the port of Agia Efimia there are many small coves with pebbles, accessible by stairs or path. The busiest beaches of the island unfold in the area of Lassi, close to Argostoli: Makris Gialos with its fine blonde sand, beach bar, sunbeds and water sports and the neighboring Platys Gialos.
In the area of Livathos, now, stands out the small sandy and organized beach of Ai-Heli, near Svoronata. Minies, Ammes and Lourdas are also popular and organized, as well as Trapezaki and Abythos with the shallow transparent waters and the taverns. In the southeast, again, Koroni is one of the top beaches thanks to the clear waters, the fine sand and the natural clay spa from the rocks.

Families that vacation in the area usually frequent the beaches of Katelios. After them, on the road to Skala, the cape of Mounta is deleted in the background. From the village of Ratzakli a downhill road leads to the large and quiet sandy beaches of Potamakia and Kaminia, which have sunbeds and umbrellas, while also offered for windsurfing. For relaxing on a sun lounger and water sports a classic choice is the beach of the tourist resort Skala. You will swim more alone in Kako Lagadi, between Skala and Poros.

On the peninsula of Paliki, south of Lixouri, Xi with its sandy beach offers a very special setting, while the picturesque bay in Vatsa has acquired its faithful thanks to its loose tavern on the beach. Petani beach in the west is similar to Myrtos, with clear waters, white pebbles and sandy beach, but avoid it when strong northwest wind blows. Equally beautiful, with pebbles and crystal clear waters, is the spacious Platia Ammos in the area of Kipouraion Monastery. Closing an organized kayak trip, you will have the opportunity to swim in the inaccessible beaches of Fteri and Amodi, under steep limestone cliffs.
